Yiddish Film G-d, Man and Devil (Got, Mentsh, un Tayvel)
USA, 1949 Restoration and new English subtitles: Based on a play by Jacob Gordin, God, Man and Devil centers on a wager between God and Satan that has dire consequences. Beware, the film cautions, when money sounds sweeter than music. "... an all-star version of Jacob Gordin's God, Man and Devil was likely the costliest production of Seiden's career, and, thanks to his choice of material, also the best." |
